DENISON, Texas — Heritage Park reopened in downtown Denison on Oct. 15 after years of work, bringing a new stage, sound system and walking plaza to the Main Street block, according to KXII's coverage of the opening. The city lists the park at 324 W. Main St., at Main and Burnett streets. It is part of the second phase of the Designing Downtown Denison project, which also includes work on Main Street and nearby alleys. The park is intended for public gatherings and performances as well as everyday use. Denison Main Street Director Donna Dow told KXII the park is a downtown anchor that can draw people to local businesses. A nearby shop owner described years of construction barriers and said he welcomed the opening. Those accounts show both the disruption businesses experienced and the expectations for the finished space. KXII reported that Music on Main is expected to return to the new stage next summer, with other city events planned sooner. The city facility page lists a stage, public restrooms and wheelchair access. It also provides information for groups seeking to reserve the park. Residents can use the park now and check the city's downtown events calendar for upcoming programs. Anyone planning a private or large public event should confirm current reservation rules with the city, as its web pages may lag the reopening.
