VAN ALSTYNE, Texas — Van Alstyne ISD reported about 3,024 students at its Sept. 14 meeting, roughly 6 percent more than at the end of 2025-26. Other Grayson County boards posted routine agendas the same week.
The district’s recap put attendance near 96.3 percent through the prior week. Administrators said they will keep watching both figures for what they mean for the budget. The board also heard that placements in the district alternative education program fell from 46 in 2024-25 to 27 in 2025-26, a drop of 41 percent. Twelve students served through Panther Academy and PAWS finished graduation requirements last year, and all 12 met the college, career, or military readiness mark set for them.
In public comment, speakers said the Aug. 17 handbook item did not spell out extracurricular changes. They asked the board to put those policies on a future agenda. A proposal to undo an earlier action did not proceed, because it was not on the Sept. 14 posting. The consent agenda passed with four votes in favor and three abstentions.
After a hearing, trustees voted 7-0 to certify compliance with Senate Bill 12 and to authorize Superintendent Dr. David Brown to send that certification to the Texas Education Agency. The recap says the 2026 score is 87, a B. The high school earned a distinction in Closing the Gaps, and the junior high earned one in science. Trustees also approved a 4-H resolution, an investment resolution, a staff-development plan, and school guardians recommended by the superintendent.
The next posted Van Alstyne meeting is Team of Eight training at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. The agenda is the annual board workshop. It is not a business agenda with a tax rate or a policy vote listed.
Grayson College’s Tuesday agendas were a 3 p.m. work session and a 3:45 p.m. regular meeting. The work session listed a tour of the new health sciences building, an update on fall bid packages, and a discussion of a simplified tuition and fee model for 2027-28. The regular meeting repeats the tuition discussion and the bid update. Neither posting adopts a tuition rate.
Pottsboro ISD’s Sept. 21 agenda, at 5:45 p.m., asked the board to consider an updated child-nutrition code of conduct and the district improvement plan, and it set a hearing on compensatory education. S&S Consolidated’s 6 p.m. agenda the same night included a hearing on a compliance certification and the district’s FIRST rating. Collinsville’s 7 p.m. agenda was minutes, finance reports, and a superintendent item on buying and building an elementary playground. Those are agenda items, not vote results.
Van Alstyne’s recap is on the district website. The other agendas are on BoardBook.
