DENISON, Texas — Denison ISD trustees will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. to consider the district's 2026-2027 improvement plan, the annual certification of compliance under House Bill 2 and a resolution that would give Grayson County 4-H students extracurricular status.
The regular meeting opens with a call to order, roll call, the pledge of allegiance and an invocation, followed by board comments and public participation. The posted agenda says public comment will include testimony on the annual certification of compliance to HB 2.
Board members also hear the district's vision statement and a superintendent's report before moving to action items. T-TESS is the state's teacher evaluation system, and the appraiser list names the administrators who will conduct classroom evaluations during the year.
In routine business, the board's consent agenda covers minutes from the Aug. 4 and Aug. 18 meetings, the July 2026 check register, and the July financial, tax collection and investment reports.
The action list has three items beyond the consent agenda: approval of the 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan, adoption of the T-TESS appraiser list for the school year, and the resolution designating Grayson County 4-H as extracurricular status for student activities. Trustees also will act on the annual certification of compliance.
Trustees will hear several information reports before closing the open session, including the September personnel report, the 2026 STAAR End-of-Course and grades 3-8 results with the district's accountability ratings, and an update on construction projects.
Two items are set for closed session. Trustees plan to deliberate security devices and security audits under Texas Government Code 551.076 and to discuss the superintendent's evaluation instrument under 551.074. Any action from those discussions would be taken after the board reconvenes in open session, followed by adjournment.
The improvement plan and the 4-H resolution are the two items most likely to draw public interest. Districts submit improvement plans as part of the state's accountability system, and the 4-H designation would let students who are not yet in high school count as present when they take part in 4-H contests.
The STAAR results cover high school end-of-course exams in core subjects as well as reading and math tests for grades 3 through 8, and the accountability ratings that accompany them come from the Texas Education Agency.
Denison ISD serves students across Grayson County's largest city and the surrounding communities in the southern part of the county. School board meetings are open to the public, and the full agenda and supporting documents are posted through the district's BoardBook page.
Board agendas can change before a meeting, and trustees may postpone or withdraw items.
